Confessions Of A Yoga Teacher
There are some health enthusiasts who claim that Yoga is “the mother of all health maintenance systems,” but despite the overwhelming evidence, there are still some unanswered questions that Yoga teachers have yet to address. Even though yoga and its related physical exercises has been practices for more than 5,000 years, Yoga is not fully embraced in mainstream thought. The contemporary interest in Eastern thought has meant progress for the proponents of Yoga, but for others the connection to Eastern religion raises a red flag of caution.
Seriously, How Can Yoga Make You Lose Weight?
Despite the warnings of many religious leaders who are wary of the influence of Eastern religious thought, Yoga has gained fans among those who focus on the health benefits of the physical exercises, which may include weight loss. Recent studies of the value of Yoga for weight loss suggest that and even a little bit of yoga exercise is better than doing nothing and expecting to maintain weight control, and there are a number of reasons why. Yoga is a lifestyle change that includes a safe diet, exercise, adjusting posture, breathing, and a whole lot more. Most Yoga practitioners would agree with health experts on the importance of consuming more water, eating more moderately, and taking better care of their bodies.
Aren’t you supposed to jump up and down for at least a half-hour per day to exercise enough to lose weight?
Popular delusions of the masses include the mistaken notion that in order to lose weight you must first feel the pain, suffer, starve, and perhaps even have a near-death experience.
The average person in a moderate Hatha yoga class is burning about 200 calories per hour, although this may vary according to the person’s weight and height. For the more hardy exercise enthusiast, Vinyasa Yoga classes will burn more calories with exercises that require much more flowing and active movements. Always remember not to overdo it, especially if you have only recently begun an exercise regimen. Remember that safety is your top priority and you will be fine.
Progress to more advanced Yoga classes if you feel a compulsive need to “pay for your sins” and feel the pain, heat, and suffering. If you really think that you must do “penance” for years of consuming excessive pizza, burgers, and buffets, then Yoga may have just the class for you. You may even find a Yoga teacher who missed his or her calling as an interrogator.
If you look long and hard enough, you can find a Yoga class for every level of practice. Some moderate Yoga classes may seem like an easy way to lose weight when viewed from the outside, but on the inside of the classroom many people find them more challenging than they had imagined. However, the actual benefits of continuous Yoga exercise are many. Steady Yoga practice may yield some health benefits for the body.
Couldn’t you just invent a Yoga pill?
An easy alternative to physical exercise has always been the ultimate dream of “couch potatoes,” but every time a weight loss pill comes out, there is a down side. Just look at the health problems that resulted from fen phen and ephedra. This should wake people up, but someone will always put their life at risk, no matter how many warning labels are printed.
In summary, the benefits of Yoga practice have always existed, through steady and safe practice. Seek out a safe teacher and go from there. Never push yourself to the point of strain. Moderation is key, so it is wise to avoid extremes.
